Annual Wheelchair Games
The Michigan Wheelchair
Games are held in early Spring for several days of competition, with an
awards
ceremony and banquet following competition. Each year, the Wayne Lee
Memorial Award is presented to the company or group, which makes a
significant contribution to the promotion of wheelchair sports. Also,
the John Hussey Memorial Award is presented to the individual elected
most instrumental in the promotion of wheelchair sports.
Participation in the
events is not restricted to athletes who use wheelchairs all of the
time. Athletes have certain physical limitations, and must compete from
a wheelchair in some events. All athletes are medically classified
using the international functional classification system so that
competition for all degrees of disability is fair.

Table Tennis:
Conducted in accordance with the rules of the International Table
Tennis Federation (ITTF) and the International Table Tennis Committee
for the Disabled (ITTC).
Archery: Conducted
in accordance with international Archery Federation (FITA) rules. The
junior rules are governed by the NAA/JOAD. Provisions are made for
adaptive equipment and use of a bow stand or compound bow.
Swimming:
Conducted in accordance with United States Swimming (USS) rules.
Shooting: Air
pistol and air rifle competition for all classes at 10m is conducted in
accordance with the ISCD/NWSF shooting rules in conjunction with the
UIT rules for air rifle and small bore.
Track:
Conducted in accordance with WTFUSA rules. Events include: 60m, 100m,
200m, 400m, 800m, 1500m, 5000m, 10,000m, and team relays.
Field Events: Conducted
in accordance with the WTFUSA rules, includes shotput, javelin, club
throw, discus and slalom.
Pentathlon: Comprises
competition in five events conducted in the following order: shotput,
javelin or club throw, short dash, discus throw, and distance push for
most classes.
Weightlifting:
Conducted in accordance with the USWWF/ISMWSF rules. There are 10
categories of competition. For adult males there are 2 divisions in
each weight class.

Wheelchair Sports, USA
has established the Master’s Division for competitors 40 years of age
or older, and the Junior Division for athletes 7 to 21 years of age.
Six years old and younger compete in the Futures Division, while all
other athletes compete in the Adult Division.
